Greater Albany, in southwest Georgia’s plantation country, wards off mere notions of boredom when dining out, what with its varied options, from coffee shops, diners and fast food joints to Asian eateries, steak and seafood houses, and bastions of southern-style comfort. Star-Way’s Hot Dogs & Ice Cream on Slappey Boulevard has its fans, as does Mikata’s Restaurant and Sushi Bar. Hooter’s of Albany stands out with burgers, hot wings, and what it calls "notorious shrimp." Ordinary Coyote, on the other hand, is anything but ordinary with a progressive, upscale, family friendly atmosphere for southwestern flair cuisine. The Great Dining Experience / Hubbles, on Washington Street and featuring a mix of old and new that made Albany’s original Hubbles an icon, has restored heart and soul of old downtown in the Sandy Bottom District. For southern nirvana, Pearly’s Famous Country Cooking and the Ole Times Country Buffet do the trick. The Mayberry Diner also provides a homey atmosphere, seven days for lunch. On Third Avenue, PerkUp!, a coffee cafe and dessert lounge, makes for relaxed sweet endings. Greater Albany chains range from Applebee’s Blimpie, Dominos and Steak ‘n Shake to Outback, Red Lobster, Willy T’s Chicken Fingers, and Zaxby’s.
